[S2E13] Suspect \/\/FREE\\\\

Finding the rare Clovis antiquities opened up a whole museum full of suspects. My money was on the young, ambitious gofer. But in the end, he wouldn't have had the academic gravitas to cash in on the find.

One of the victim's friends fails to identify the suspect from a line of men, which leads Mulder to suspect the killer has no criminal record, making him much more difficult to find; he decides to go back to the profile, specifically in regards to the killer's intense hatred for women. Pfaster attends night class and is attracted to a classmate's hair. He follows her to her car and tries to ingratiate himself with a question about their homework. His suspicious behaviour makes the woman uneasy, and when he tries to attack her, she kicks him in the testicles and flees, leading to his arrest.

Scully performs an autopsy on the victim but has an unexplained vision of herself on the autopsy table, with some sort of monster looking down on her. Bocks call the agents to the jail, where they have what they think is their suspect; although this man is not the killer, he happens to be in a cell across the way from Pfaster. As the agents question the suspect, Pfaster becomes entranced by Scully's hair; as the agents leave, Scully notices Pfaster's staring and is unnerved by it. She volunteers to take the body back to Washington for fingerprint and evidence analysis, again telling Mulder she can handle herself when he shows concern. After they leave, Pfaster learns Scully's name from the man they had questioned, and is released soon after when his classmate declines to press charges.

Magnum and TC go undercover as efficiency experts when a corporate manager is murdered and everyone in the office is a suspect. Also, Rick is curious why Higgins faked an injury to prevent her from investigating the case with Thomas.

In Earth Two, Barry's mom is still alive and his father never went to jail. Barry actually gets a chance to speak with his mom over the phone, in a really moving conversation that brings Barry (and likely many viewers) to tears. It's sweet and hits all the right emotional notes. It's a brief, beautiful "dreams come true" moment that we know won't last. And I suspect that, in some ways at least, it's comforting to Barry to know that his mother is still alive somewhere, even if it's another world entirely.

Gideon and the team go to the small town of Golconda, Nevada to help apprehend the man who could be the most prolific serial killer ever. When the killer is reported to be at a diner, Gideon and Morgan go inside to question him. Meanwhile, the rest of the team tries to find the solution as to why the suspect keeps coming back to the same town every year, as well as rescue his latest victim.

In a clever but ethically questionable move, Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) and his sister Gabriela (guest star Monica Raymund) publicly confronted sole suspect Elliot Gish (guest star Robert Knepper, Prison Break) with their accusations.

Jeffries speaks with Jessie. She tells of a picnic with her family where she sees Rodney with whom she is having an affair. Her kids, Kayla and Darnell, and husband, Mike notice her weird behavior but don't seem to suspect.

The team discovers that Mike Odoms owned a white Volare. They suspect he may have tried to shoot his wife for revenge, but hit his daughter instead. Mike is told of the affair. He denies trying to shoot Rodney. He will not tolerate being told he tried to kill his daughter. He denies that his son Darnell could have driven the car or been involved. The team suspects otherwise.

Mike Odoms admits to the shooting. Darnell steps forward to take the blame. He wanted to keep his parents together, suspecting after his mom's reaction at the park. He took the car to shoot Rodney at the park but did not know that his mom and sister were there. They were caught in the crossfire. He sees his mom screaming as he drives away from the shooting. He cries in disbelief. He then tosses the gun into the river and speeds off.

Quincy races to the hospital to collect evidence from rape victim Fay Willard, but discovers that emergency room staff washed the patient and discarded her clothing on the floor, eliminating any evidence that links her rapist to his crimes. Quincy and Monahan know who the rapist is, but cannot prove what they know. Together with Sam and rape counselor Carol Bowen, they search for a way to put the man behind bars. Then Carol herself becomes the rapist's next victim. She insists the hospital wait to treat her until Quincy collects evidence. He does, and Monahan arrests their suspect, but a foul-up frees him, leaving only a slim chance: his wife, who has alibied for him in the past if she finally sees her husband as the monster he really is...

"Echo's" title had duel meaning. Besides the computer program, it also was a comment about the mirror images of Paige and Jared. Jared's frenzied final words showed a boy in deep conflict. He hated his parents in some ways, saying his whole life had been a lie, but loved the mission and his part in it. Him killing them was part of his chaotic rage that he clearly wasn't equipped to handle emotionally. All season, Paige has been calm, though defiant, with her parents. But Philip seems completely right in his assertion that to bring her in on this truth (despite whatever she suspects) might break her. (Then again, at this point, I almost think she wouldn't even be surprised).

When Major wakes up, he mistakes Don E for his twin brother Scott E. Blaine says that he and Liv are BFFs now that he feeds zombie brains. Major insists that he doesn't kill zombies, and Blaine says that the zombies Major was killing are his customers. He offers to let Major decide how he's going out. Major asks what he wants to know, and Blaine wants the name of the leak in his organization that is giving Major his customer names. Blaine calls Chief over to infect Major, and Major says that he was given a list of 300 suspected zombies. His job was to figure out which ones were zombies and which ones weren't, and kill the ones who were. If he didn't then they'd take out everyone on the list starting with Liv. Major refuses to say who "they" are, pointing out that Blaine would then have no reason to keep him alive, and asks if Blaine is interested to know if he's on the list. Blaine tells Chief to lock Major in a coffin so he can have time to think things over.

Detective Dante was profiled. He was getting gas when some sheriff deputies profiled him. They thought he matched the description of a home burglary suspect and so in their intelligent thinking they thought a guy wanted for armed burglary would stop for gas in the neighborhood.

  • Anything but That!: Sedusa when she begs the girls and Miss Bellum not to cut off her hair.

  • Badass Normal: Despite the girls not thinking she's capable of it, Ms. Bellum does actually manage to subdue Sedusa on her own.

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Ms. Bellum may not do much of her own fighting, but when provoked, she proves an even match for Sedusa.

  • Big "NO!": Sedusa's reaction to the girls and Ms. Bellum cutting off her hair.

  • Cat Fight: Between Miss Bellum and Sedusa.

  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: The girls and Miss Bellum cut off all of Sedusa's hair as punishment.

  • Covered in Kisses: The Mayor ends up like this due to Miss Bellum/Sedusa.

  • Cut-and-Paste Note: Sedusa uses one of these when sending a ransom note to the Mayor.

  • Despair Event Horizon: The Mayor is brought to this when he receives a note informing him that Ms. Bellum has been kidnapped by Sedusa and that the girls must confront her if they want to save her.

  • Disguised Hostage Gambit: Sedusa switches clothes with Miss Bellum and pretends that she captured "Sedusa" in order to trick the girls, who fortunately wouldn't believe that Miss Bellum would singlehandedly defeat Sedusa.

  • Foreshadowing: When the girls contemplate who could possibly be behind the crimes without leaving a trace of evidence, one of the suspects brought up is the Gangreen Gang, which Blossom rules out and deems as "juvie" (meaning they're most likely doing time in juvenile hall after their graffiti spree). Four seasons later, in one of the episodes there, someone was behind another clever heist without leaving a lick of evidence. Guess who it was? Coincidentally, Sedusa also appears in that episode.

  • Gory Discretion Shot: "Gory" is a strong word, but we are treated to one of these when Sedusa's hair gets cut, which is clearly a horrific ordeal given that she relies on it to commit her crimes.

  • Kill It with Water: Sedusa's hair (or at least the hair gel that she was using) ultimately loses its power when it gets wet.

  • Laser-Guided Karma: Sedusa's hair, which she relies on in all of her schemes, is cut off by Ms. Bellum after her failed attempt to kidnap her and the girls and cheated by using hairgel.

  • Mirror Match: Sedusa vs. Miss Bellum starts like this because at the time Miss Bellum is still wearing the Sedusa disguise that Sedusa put on her.

  • Oh, Crap!: Sedusa is horrified to see that Miss Bellum had freed the girls from her hairgel, and is going to make sure she can't use it ever again.

  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Miss Bellum acts really unlike her usual self in this episode (like using her looks to seduce the mayor into letting her take some time off, and crying when she apparently fails to notify the girls in time to stop a crime), which quickly tips off the viewer that something is not right about her. Eventually, her apparently capturing Sedusa on her own tips off the girls that she's not Miss Bellum but Sedusa in disguise.

  • Overly-Long Gag: The cartoon starts with the narrator riffing on his episode-opening catch phrase about half-a-dozen times in a row in the space of twenty seconds.Narrator: The city of Townsville! (cut to City Hall) Narrator: The setting of Townsville! (cut to a couch in the Mayor's office) Narrator: The settee of Townsville! (The Mayor enters, and pulls out a compact disc) Narrator: The CD of Townsville! (The Mayor tries playing the CD on a gramophone) Narrator: The pity of Townsville! (Miss Bellum enters, hands on her hips in a disapproving manner; camera cuts to her front where it pans up Miss Bellum's body) Narrator: The pretty of Townsville!

  • Post-Kiss Catatonia: Sedusa repeatedly leaves the Mayor in one of these after she kisses him as Miss Bellum.

  • Technologically Blind Elders: The mayor tries to play a CD on a record player.

  • Took a Level in Badass: In her first appearance, Sedusa was taken out by the girls in a matter of seconds. Armed with her new hair gel, Sedusa puts up a far better fight, even defeating the girls briefly until Ms. Bellum intervenes.

  • Traumatic Haircut: Sedusa's fate at the end of the episode. That's bad enough on its own for someone as vain as she is, but her hair is also the source of her powers and its loss means that she's Brought Down to Normal.

  • Varying Competency Alibi: Mojo Jojo, despite his intelligence, is such a poor planner that when the girls try to figure out who is behind a string of robberies, they rule him out as a suspect because the robberies were too well-planned out.
